# Size Metafield Source: https://docs.frameup.app/advanced/size-metafield Set artwork size without variants ## Introduction If you offer different size options for each artwork product we recommend using size variants. If you only offer one size for each product you may prefer to use a metafield to set the artwork size. Follow the steps below to create the "artwork.size" metafield for your store and set it for a product. ### 1. Create the metafield definition On a product page in the Shopify admin, scroll down to the "Metafields" section and click "View all". Empty metafields section on product page You should now see the product metafields for your store. You may already have some. Click "Add definition": Add a custom field to your products You should see the "Add product metafield definition" screen. Type in the name of the metafield, e.g. "Artwork Size", then click where it says "custom.artwork\_size". Add product metafield definition Delete the "custom.artwork\_size" and type in "artwork.size". This must match exactly: Set namespace and key to 'artwork.size' exactly Set the type to "Single line text": Set type to single-line text Now click "Save" at the top of the page to save this metafield definition. ### 2. Set artwork size for each product Return to a product page in Shopify admin, scroll down to the Metafields section and you should be able to type in your artwork size like below: Set artwork size for a product Click 'Save' and Frame Up will now automatically detect this as the artwork size. Artwork presentation ### Style You can choose from a range of framing options. The preview on the left side of the page will update in realtime as you select different options. You'll see different framing options have different secondary options, e.g. when 'Frame' is selected you'll see a 'Frame Material' option below. It's also possible to add a border and, for Frame type only, a raised mountboard. If you offer more than one framing style you can also apply styles based on your variants, we'll cover this in a later section. More framing options are available on the Advanced and Plus tiers with custom frame mouldings and materials possible with the Plus tier ### Artwork Image If you offer different artwork sizes (see size variants), Frame Up gives you options on how to render the artwork image within the frame. Review the fit modes below to find the right fit for your store: | Fit mode | Description | | ------------------------------- | ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | | Crop image to fit frame size | The top & bottom or left & right sides of the artwork image are cropped so the artwork fits inside the frame. This fit mode is recommended for most stores. | | Stretch image to fit frame size | The artwork image is stretched to fill the frame. This may distort the image. | | Adjust frame size to fit image | The artwork image is not cropped or distorted. Instead the frame size is adjusted so it matches the aspect ratio of the artwork image. | #### Size metafield For artworks that are only sold at one size, it is also possible to use metafields to set the artwork size instead of using variants. ## Next step Next we'll look at how to choose the room displayed in "View in a room" mode. Teach Frame Up how to interpret your size and framing variants # Variants Source: https://docs.frameup.app/customisation/variants ## Introduction Wall art is often sold with different framing and size options. On Shopify these are usually offered as product variants. Frame Up can understand these variants and show customers a matching artwork preview. Variants Your products should already have variants before continuing ## Variant rules There are many different ways to configure your variants so we need to teach Frame Up how to understand them - we do this using Variant Rules. Search for a product in the preview section. Choose a product that has variants. Below the preview area you'll see all the product's variants listed: Variants overview If a variant option is yellow that means no matching rule has been found. Notice how the artwork frame is black. This is because in the Artwork Presentation section the frame material is set to black. ### Automatically create a style rule Let's set up a variant rule for the "Oak" option. To do this click "Create a variant rule". This automatically creates a rule for us that we can see on the right side of the page. Create variant rule The 'Oak' variant option is now green. On the right side of the page we can now select the appropriate style settings. In our case we want to set 'Frame Material' to 'Natural Grain' because it most closely matches the look of the frames we sell. New variant rule created This process can then be repeated for your other style variants. ### Automatically create a size rule Frame Up can automatically detect variants if they look like sizes, for example *12" x 16"*. To do this click “Create a variant rule”. Create size rule This creates a single rule that detects all your size options. Size variants ### Creating rules manually You can also create rules manually using the 'New variant rule' button at the bottom of the variant rules section. We recommend using the automated system above as it guarantees the rule will match the variant. Our support team is ready to help!
